Three guys walked up the path following the edge of the woods, looking for an entrance.
“It’s just a bit further up” Hamish said.
Dayle noticed the entrance a few metres ahead.
“Finally! Feels like we’ve been walking for ages: Dayle complained.
Aaron was the first to hop through the entrance, camera bag and tripod swinging wildly as he did.
“Careful with the stuff man, it ain’t cheap” Dayle snapped.
Dayle was the next through the entrance followed by Hamish. The three lads were now stood in a forest where the trees towered over them like a giant net of leaves and branches.
“Right so what’s the plan again?” Aaron asked.
Dayle dropped the equipment he had slung over his shoulder down on the ground near his feet. “Okay, so we start filming over there, that’s our opening shot of the reservoir” Dayle explained.
“Alright, so when do I get to start killing people?” Aaron asked eagerly.
“Soon man, we need our establishing shots first and some fill footage.” Hamish said.
Dayle and Hamish both knelt down and started unpacking the equipment out of the bags.
“So you think it’s true?” Aaron asked both of the other guys.
“Is what true?” Hamish asked Aaron.
“You know about him…” Aaron continued.
Hamish then realised who he was on about. “Oh. Him, yeah I kinda do” Hamish then turned to Dayle. “What about you Dayle?”.
Dayle stopped unpacking the equipment and looked up at both the other lads.
“You know I don’t, it’s just an urban myth guys” Dayle said.
Aaron picked up the plastic knife prop of the ground and started swinging it around and doing stabbing motions.
“So, let me get the story right, this guy goes crazy like 20 years ago, kills a bunch of people” Aaron said.
“Harry Jacobs yeah, he was one of the people that worked in the old mines with my dad”. Hamish added.
“Yeah alright, then runs off into these woods while being pursued by the police. They supposingly kill him”Aaron said.
“Although a body was never found” Hamish added.
“Yeah, although his body was never found. So maybe he is still alive, hiding in these woods, waiting for his chance for revenge.
“Like I said it’s an urban myth” Dayle said. He then picked up a camera tripod and walked off.
“What’s his problem?” Aaron asked turning to Hamish.
Hamish stopped what he was doing and looked at Aaron. “His brother disappeared in these woods about 10 years ago. No clues, no body nothing. That’s what started all the rumours about Jacobs still being alive. But, Dayle refuses to believe them”. Hamish said.
“Damn, that’s rough”. Aaron said.
Meanwhile, Dayle placed the camera on the top of the tripod, fixing it in place. He flicked the on switch and glanced at the screen. He used his finger to flick through the settings adjusting them to his preferances. He glanced at the screen again only to suddenly see a figure in the distance dart between two trees.
Dayle shot up staring at where he saw the figure but there was no one there. He then turned to Hamish and Aaron who had started walking towards him.
“Did you guys see that?” Dayle asked pointing to the area where he saw the figure.
Aaron and Hamish just stared at him blankly with confused expressions on their face.
“See what?” Hamish asked confused.
“Over there I saw a person just a few seconds ago” Dayle said still pointing to the area where he saw the figure.
Aaron stared at the area confused. “I didn’t see anyone it was probably just a jogger or something pal”.
“Yeah probably” Dayle said.
Aaron reached into his bag. “Well then boys” Aaron produced a 6 pack of beer from his bag. “Aren’t we all glad that I brought these”.
“Ahahah yes my man!” Hamish laughed.
“Oh I’ll take one of those” Dayle said holding his hand out.
Aaron threw a beer to both Dayle and Hamish who caught them, popped the top off and took a sip of the cold beer.
However little did the boys know that a mysterious figure was watching them from a distance, lurking in the bushes.
Hamish placed his beer on the floor and pulled himself up. “Right I am going for a piss”.
“Alright that’s cool man,” Aaron said.
Hamish wandered off to find a secluded part of the woods, leaving Dayle and Aaron behind. The further Hamish walked away the more forest seemed to get darker, more silent. Meanwhile a figure was stalking Hamish, following him through the woods, keeping their distance waiting for a moment to strike. Hamish looked around to make sure Dayle and Aaron couldn’t see him. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes.
“Stop smoking my arse!” Hamish said.
He took a cigarette out of the pocket and raised it to his mouth. He then continued to pull out his lighter and light the cigarette. Hamish sighed and laughed, he’d missed the sweet taste of cigarettes since Dayle and Aaron tried to get him to stop smoking.
The figure moved closer to Hamish, dodging between trees. Hamish was still unaware that he was being stalked. The figure was behind Hamish now. He produced a large steel knife seemingly out of thin air. Hamish just continued to smoke his cigarette. The figure moved towards Hamish, getting closer and closer.
The figure was not right behind Hamish. Hamish heard leaves rustling; he dropped his cigarette and spun round. The figure lunged at Hamish, driving the knife into Hamish’s throat. Hamish stumbled backwards clutching at his throat, his blood pouring out covering his hands and chest. Hamish stumbled back and fell to the ground, arms by his side. The figure stood over him for a few seconds, then he reached down, grabbed Hamish’s arm and started to drag his body away.
Meanwhile Dayle and Aaron were still sat down drinking their beers.
“Hamish has been gone for a while,” Dayle noticed.
“Yeah you’re right, I swear if he’s snuck off for a cigarette I’m going to kill him, he’s supposed to be stopping” Aaron said.
Dayle put his beer on the ground and stood up.
“Hamish!” Dayle shouted loudly.
“Hamish!” Aaron called out his name as well. “Come on let’s go find him,” He added.
Dayle and Aaron started to search for Hamish, shouting his name.
“Where the fuck is he?” Aaron snapped.
Dayle looked down and noticed a pack of cigarettes a few metres ahead.
“Aaron over here!” Dayle shouted.
Dayle ran towards the pack of cigarettes but stopped dead when he saw the large pool of blood next to it. Aaron ran over and joined Dayle and he saw the pool of blood as well. Dayle was stood frozen just staring at the blood.
“Is that Hamish’s?” Aaron said nervously.
“I don’t know” Dayle mumbled.
Suddenly, some bushes behind them rustled followed by the sound of running footsteps. Dayle and Aaron looked around but could see no one. The footsteps got louder.
“Come on man run!” Aaron shouted.
Dayle and Aaron both shot off in the same direction running as fast as they could, trying to escape what was chasing them. Aaron looked behind him while running and saw the figure chasing after them. Aaron ran faster, Dayle was a few metres ahead of him.
Aaron looked around again but couldn’t see the figure. He had to stop to catch his breath.
“Dayle!” Aaron called out.
Dayle stopped and turned around. He started running towards Aaron. Suddenly, Dayle dropped to the ground screaming out in pain. He looked down at his right leg; his jeans were torn to rags and covered in blood. He let out another cry of pain. Dayles leg was trapped in a steel bear trap. Aaron ran over to Dayle. Dayle screamed in pain again.
“Oh shit, man! Oh shit! I don’t know how to unlock a fucking bear trap!” Aaron snapped.
“Get it off my leg!” Dayle screamed.
Dayle looked up and noticed the figure moving behind Aaron, getting closed to him.
“Aaron behind you man! Look out!” Dayle shouted.
Aaron turned around, but the figure slammed the butt of the knife into Aaron’s forehead. Aaron collapsed to the ground with his hand clasping onto his forehead. The figure grabbed him by the back of his neck and dragged him backwards. The figure pulled out some rope and grabbed it around Aaron’s ankles. Aaron struggled and tried to break free but it was no use. Dayle clasped his hands on the bear trap and tried to pull it apart. He kept pulling while watching his friend helplessly get tied up. The figure then threw the other end of the rope attached to Aaron’s feet into a tree wrapping it around a tree branch. The figure grabbed the other end of the rope and tied it to a branch that was sticking out of the ground, hoisting Aaron in place.
“Let me go you fucker!”Aaron screamed.
Dayle tried to pull the bear trap again. It budged a slight bit; Dayle kept pushing the trap using all his strength. He looked at Aaron who had a helpless and scared look on his face. The figure walked over to Aaron brandishing the knife.
“No! Leave him alone!” Dayle shouted, but it was no use.
The figure stabbed the knife into Aaron’s stomach and slowly sliced his stomach open. Aaron screamed in pain as his inside spilled out in a wave of blood and guts. Blood poured down over Aaron’s lifeless body. Dayle screamed loudly and with one last desperate push, pushed the bear trap fully open. Dayle quickly picked himself up and started to limp away. The figure noticed and started to pursue Dayle.
With blood dripping out of his leg, Dayle was putting all his might into getting away, it felt like his leg was on fire but he was ignoring the pain. The adrenaline was rushing through his body numbed the pain a bit. Dayle turned around but he couldn’t see the figure. Dayle could see the entrance that they came through about 20 metres ahead of him. He heard a scraping noise behind him and spun around to see the figure walking towards him. Dayle turned around and started to limp towards the entrance. The figure was quickly gaining on him.
Dayle had reached the entrance. He quickly threw his bloody leg over and started to climb over when the figure appeared and grabbed his other leg. Dayle struggled to break free kicking his leg violently. The figure pulled out his knife. Dayle threw back his foot and slammed it into the figures face. This caused the figure to stumble back grabbing his face.
Dayle threw himself over the entrance crashing to the ground. He quickly regained his stance and started to limp away heading over the open field ahead. The figure was also over the entrance walking towards Dayle. Dayle was getting away; the figure was a few metres behind him. The figure pulled out his knife, threw his arm back and launched the knife through the air.
Dayle gave a slight laugh because he was escaping the figure. Dayle started to laugh until he felt the knife impale into his back. Dayle stopped limping and stood still for a second. He collapsed to his knees and fell face down into the ground. The figure walked over to his lifeless corpse, grabbed his leg then continued to pull his dead body away…
